SHANNON
GRIMSLEY
Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Pennsylvania
About ShannonMy name is Shannon Grimsley (she/her/hers).
I am a neurodivergent, queer therapist, and I approach therapy from a relational and collaborative place where I aim to help you feel safe and supported. I believe in understanding how our relationships, identities, and systems around us inform our worldview and self-concept.
Areas of Specialization
I work with adults experiencing anxiety and OCD. You may be experiencing anxiety because of a current life transition or adjustment, or you may struggle with a specific phobia, panic attacks, generalized anxiety or social anxiety.
The modalities I use include Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Metacognitive therapy, and mindfulness techniques. I am experienced and trained in using ERP (Exposure and Response Prevention) and Inference-Based CBT (ICBT) for OCD, which are evidence-based treatments for OCD.
Values and Approach
My practice is anti-oppressive, anti-racist, and values harm reduction and body neutrality. I strive to make my practice accessible and create an environment where you can ask for what you need and communicate your concerns without judgment.
I welcome individuals who are seeking a safe place to explore their gender identity and sexual orientation. I have training and experience in providing letters of support for clients seeking gender affirming medical care. I believe you are the expert of your own experience. I also support clients navigating ethical non-monogamy.
I value your agency, privacy, and trust. I work to minimize the power dynamic within the therapeutic relationship by centering informed consent from the beginning and throughout treatment, allowing you to lead where our focus will be rather than where I think it should be, and having transparent conversations about the limits of our relationship in terms of mandated reporting and professional boundaries.
I am also deeply concerned about the impact of AI on client privacy and the environment. I do not use any form of AI to write notes, record or transcribe sessions, generate clinical materials, or process any information.
Education and clinical experience
I graduated in 2011 with a Master of Science in Counseling Psychology from Frostburg State University in Frostburg, Maryland. My early clinical experiences were with adolescents and adults in inpatient addictions treatment. I transitioned to outpatient mental health treatment in 2015 and have since worked with all ages across three different states before opening Standpoint Counseling Services in 2022.
I developed a clinical interest in obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) in 2020 and completed training in ERP and ICBT. I continue to seek out and participate in seminars and professional consultation groups to further my skill set in this area. Now I use ICBT as the primary framework for my approach to treating OCD. However, ERP is still in my back pocket as an option when requested or otherwise indicated.

I will support you in identifying your personal values and take action towards freeing yourself from stress and worry and becoming who you are.
